Statement by the Prime Minister of Canada on Chinese New Year

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb. 8, 2016) - Prime Minister's Office

The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, today issued the following statement on the Chinese New Year:

"This week, Canadians of Chinese descent will celebrate the New Year- and welcome the arrival of the year of the Fire Monkey, an animal that symbolizes cleverness, wittiness, intelligence, and curiosity.

"As friends and families come together in shared hope for a prosperous year to come, we take this moment to recognize the valuable contributions Canadians of Chinese origin have made to our country. We know that Canada is a strong and resilient nation because of its diversity.

"On behalf of our family, Sophie and I wish all those marking this occasion a very happy New Year."
