OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Nov. 6, 2013) - The Honourable Steven Blaney, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, and Roxanne James, Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Preparedness, today issued the following statement to mark the Royal Canadian Mounted Police's Change of Command Ceremony in honour of outgoing Commanding Officer, Assistant Commissioner Russ Mirasty, and incoming Commanding Officer, Chief Superintendent Brenda Butterworth-Carr, in Regina.

"We congratulate Chief Superintendent Butterworth-Carr on her new role as Commanding Officer of "F" Division. Chief Superintendent Butterworth-Carr has demonstrated exceptional dedication, enthusiasm and leadership skills since first joining the force in 1987. We also thank Assistant Commissioner Mirasty for his leadership as "F" Division Commanding Officer since 2010 and his 36 years of service with the RCMP. We wish him luck with his recently announced appointment as one of two advisors to be leading a province-wide consultation aimed at improving the education system in Saskatchewan. Even in retirement, Assistant Commissioner Mirasty continues to demonstrate his commitment to serving Canadians."
