Statement From Parliamentary Secretary Rickford on the 40th Anniversary of the Little Native Hockey League Tournament

SUDBURY, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 13, 2011) - Mr. Greg Rickford, Member of Parliament for Kenora (Ontario) and Parliamentary Secretary to the Minister of Indian Affairs and Northern Development and Federal Interlocutor for Métis and Non-Status Indians, issued the following statement with regard to the 40th anniversary of the Little Native Hockey League tournament:

"I would like to take this opportunity to welcome all the young Aboriginal hockey players to the 40th annual Little Native Hockey League Tournament and to wish them a fun and successful tournament!

I also want to congratulate the volunteers, coaches and organizers whose dedication and hard work have made this one-of-a kind event possible. Through their efforts, Aboriginal young people from across Canada are able to come together to pursue active and healthy lifestyles while developing new leadership skills and learning the value of teamwork.

After 40 years, this exceptional tournament continues to provide a venue for Aboriginal youth to pursue athletic excellence all in the spirit of fair play and sportsmanship. The values they learn in this game will serve them well their whole lives.

Indian and Northern Affairs Canada is a proud supporter of this event. By helping to provide opportunities for Aboriginal youth, we are investing in the future success of generations of Aboriginal people in Canada."
