Statement From Public Safety Minister Peter Van Loan on the Death of RCMP Constable James Lundblad

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 6, 2009) - "On behalf of all Canadians, I wish to extend my deepest sympathies to the family, friends and colleagues of RCMP Constable James Lundblad who tragically lost his life while serving the citizens of his community in the Millet area of Alberta. While serving with Camrose Traffic Services, Constable Lundblad was killed in an accident yesterday morning.

This tragic death reminds all Canadians of the great risks that our brave men and women serving in the RCMP face every day. Today, it is with sadness, yet pride, that I recognize the courage of Constable Lundblad and his colleagues in the RCMP.

Constable Lundblad was a 41-year old officer who was in the eighth year of his career in the RCMP. He will be remembered for his commitment to the safety of the community he served and for making Canada a better place to live.

I feel deeply for Constable Lunblad's parents, Lloyd and Noella, and his sister, Michelle. My thoughts are with all his family, friends and colleagues.

Constable Lundblad died in service to Canada. His untimely death is a tragic loss for the RCMP and all Canadians. We must never forget the courage of our law enforcement officers who risk harm to themselves every day to keep the rest of us safe."
