Statement From Robert Wornham, Father of Firefighter Jeff Wornham Who Died at Harrow Court, Stevenage, Hertfordshire

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 12, 2008) - Robert Wornham, the father of fire-fighter Jeff Wornham who died at Harrow Court, Stevenage on 2nd February 2005 said:

"I am joining in the Lobby of Parliament to bring to the nation's attention the inadequacies that I feel have come to light within the 'Fire Service' following the death of my son, along with the other incidents that have caused suffering to other families on an all too regular basis.

"The report published by the Fire Brigades Union 'In the line of duty' identifies many failings with the way records are kept, information is disseminated along with guidance and procedural advice following an incident, how training and advice is put in place and followed through.

"I feel it has come to the time that the Department for Communities and Local Government establishes a body with full resources to be able to address all the points within the FBU report. This is to ensure all those who work in the fire service are trained with the full knowledge that all lessons have been learned from all previous fatalities or other serious incidents.

"This is about having systems in place to learn lessons so all firefighters across the UK are safer in the future. This is the message I would like the Members of Parliament to get and I hope that the Government will listen to and act upon."

Mr Wornham would ask that he is not contacted further by the media and that his privacy and that of his family are respected. He is not available for further comment or interview.
