SFATA supports mandatory warning labels and childproof packaging on all e-liquid containers, and we applaud Senator Schumer for his continued focus on protecting consumers and children.
As part of a mandatory warning label on e-liquid containers, SFATA and its member companies believe it is appropriate to display an addictiveness warning, nicotine levels, and information that will allow consumers to view an ingredient listing of each product. Additionally, childproof caps and seals should be common sense requirements for e-liquid containers, and we will continue working to make sure that they become the industry standard.
Vapor products have grown rapidly in popularity because they offer smokers an alternative to combustible cigarettes. One of the fastest-growing vapor product segments is open-tank systems, which allow "vapers" to customize the experience by selecting their own e-liquid, which often contains highly diluted nicotine. As with any potentially harmful consumer product, SFATA believes it is important to take every step necessary to protect children and pets from accidental ingestion or exposure to e-liquids, while ensuring continued availability for adult consumers who seek to use the product responsibly.
