Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Canadian Olympic Committee's Announcement Regarding LGBTQ-Related Initiatives

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 2, 2014) - Today, the Canadian Olympic Committee made an important announcement supporting the inclusion of LGBTQ athletes and coaches in Canadian sport. By partnering with Egale Canada and You Can Play, the Canadian Olympic Committee is sending a clear message that everyone should be able to participate in sport, without discrimination of any kind.

Canada has consistently shown leadership in ensuring that sport is safe, fair and welcoming for all. Our Government is committed to promoting meaningful opportunities for all Canadians to become involved in sport, regardless of gender or sexual orientation. We believe in the power of sport to unite Canadians and to make our communities stronger and healthier.

Today's announcement further supports the active engagement of the LGBTQ community in Canada's sport system. We commend the Canadian Olympic Committee and its partners for promoting greater inclusion in sport.
