Statement by the Honourable Bal Gosal, Minister of State (Sport), on the Passing of Bill S-211, the National Health and Fitness Day Act

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 11, 2014) - Today marks the passing of Bill S-211, An Act to establish a national day to promote health and fitness for all Canadians, to be observed on the first Saturday of June each year. This National Health and Fitness Day-which will begin in 2015, the Year of Sport in Canada-is another step in getting all Canadians to take part in and benefit from an active lifestyle.

From our local playgrounds to recreational sport leagues and all the way to our inspiring high-performance athletes, sport and physical activity are vital to the well-being of our nation. We encourage all Canadians to celebrate sport in their communities by getting involved and participating in the many sport events that will be organized across the country on National Health and Fitness Day and throughout the Year of Sport in 2015.
