OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 3, 2009) - The Canadian athletes who participated in the FINA World Championships in Rome did an outstanding job-in swimming, diving, water polo, and synchronized swimming.

Sport is a defining part of our identity as Canadians. Every athlete that represents Canada in a competition of this stature is a source of pride for each and every one of us.

Our Government recognizes the hard work and dedication of our Canadian athletes.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper, the Government of Canada, and all Canadians, I would like to heartily congratulate the athletes who have brought us honour, winning nine medals at the FINA World Championships in Rome. We are all proud of your tremendous achievements.
