Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), Congratulating Canadian Medallists at the 2009 Canada Cup-FINA Diving Grand Prix

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - May 5, 2009) - On behalf of the Government of Canada and all Canadians, I would like to congratulate our athletes who gave medal-winning performances at the 2009 Canada Cup on the weekend. This competition is the fourth stop on the FINA Grand Prix circuit.

We are very proud of our Canadian athletes, who won eight medals.

As Minister of State (Sport), I would like to congratulate:

- Meaghan Benfeito, who won a gold and a silver medal

- Reuben Ross, who won gold

- Roseline Filion, who won two silver, and Jennifer Abel, who won a silver and a bronze

- Emilie Heymans and Melanie Rinaldi, who won silver

- Hailey Casper and Mandy Moran, who won bronze

The competition showcased our top divers and gave them the opportunity to challenge the world's best from 13 countries at Montreal's Olympic Park Sports Centre. The dedication and commitment of our athletes are an inspiration and a source of pride for all Canadians.

Our Government was proud to help make the 2009 Canada Cup a success by providing funding through Sport Canada's Hosting Program.
