Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), on the Occasion of the Closing Ceremonies of the 2011 Canada Games

HALIFAX, NOVA SCOTIA--(Marketwire - Feb. 27, 2011) - Over the past two weeks, we have seen outstanding performances from the best young athletes from every province and territory in Canada. We have seen them give their all as they competed and tried to reach their personal best. We will no doubt see many of them in the future, as they go on to achieve success on the international stage.

The Canada Games are our country's largest domestic, multisport event. More than 2400 athletes competed this year, gaining invaluable training and experience. They were allowed to shine and to inspire and encourage all Canadians. The Halifax 2011 Canada Games Host Society, Halifax Regional Municipality, the Province of Nova Scotia, the Canada Games Council, and the many volunteers are to be commended on organizing such an exceptional event.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I congratulate all the athletes who participated and thank those who contributed to the success of the 2011 Canada Games.
