Statement by the Honourable Gary Lunn, Minister of State (Sport), on the Occasion of the Re-Election of Patrick Jarvis as a Governing Board Member of the International Paralympic Committee

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 27, 2009) - On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate Patrick Jarvis on his re-election as a Governing Board member of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Mr. Jarvis is a leader of the Paralympic Movement and an inspiration to us all.

Canada, as host of the 2010 Olympic and Paralympic Winter Games, is thankful for the great support and cooperation received from the IPC. With less than 100 days before the Paralympic Torch Relay embarks on its journey, Canadians are embracing the spirit of the Games, and our athletes are gearing up for the gold. Our Government recognizes that the 10th anniversary of the Paralympic Winter Games is a proud moment for Canadians, because for the first time in history, these Games are taking place on Canadian soil. The Paralympic Winter Games are the perfect opportunity for us to showcase and celebrate our Paralympians and their amazing achievements.
