Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, to congratulate the 32nd annual National Magazine Awards Finalists

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - April 23, 2009) - The Canadian magazines available to us are both diverse and high-quality. They reflect our lives and culture, while addressing themes that resonate with Canadians as a whole. Through their content, our magazines make us think, discuss, and expand our knowledge.

The artists and skilled staff of our magazines perform remarkable work that deserves to be celebrated. This is what the National Magazine Awards Foundation does by honouring outstanding magazines, writing, and visual work every year. There are also awards for student writers and new writers-an excellent contribution to the development of a talented and promising new generation.

I am proud that our Government provided $145,910 to the Foundation in 2008-09 to help raise the profile of the Awards throughout our country.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I wish to congratulate all the 32nd annual National Magazine Awards finalists. I also thank them for their contribution to the Canadian cultural scene, and encourage them to keep on working in the same direction. Thanks as well to the National Magazine Awards Foundation and its many volunteers, who highlight the best in Canadian magazines.
