Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of 2010 Canadian Country Music Week and the Canadian Country Music Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 12, 2010) - Edmonton is hosting the 2010 Canadian Country Music Week—a four-day celebration that showcases emerging, up-and-coming, and established artists and culminates in the Canadian Country Music Awards Show.

Across this country in communities of all sizes, Canadians love country music and the people who make it. The country genre, an important part of our Canadian heritage, has evolved throughout the years to embrace new styles while connecting to its roots.

Canadian Country Music Week celebrates the very best and brightest stars of the Canadian country music scene, and our Government is pleased to support it through the Canada Music Fund.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I want to commend the work of the Canadian Country Music Association and to congratulate the talented nominees of this year's Canadian Country Music Awards.
