Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 25th Annual Gemini Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 13, 2010) - Canadian English-language television plays a vital role in telling our country's diverse stories and helping shape our national identity. It continues to entertain, enlighten, and inform audiences wherever they may be with its high-quality and innovative programming.

For the past quarter century, the Gemini Awards have provided a means to honour this excellence and acknowledge outstanding achievement in the industry. The quality and scope of talent being recognized with these awards—which also recognize digital media and cross-platform projects—illustrate why our home-grown programming enjoys such an enviable reputation.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to offer my sincere congratulations to all of this evening's nominees and award recipients. I extend special thanks to the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television for its commitment to ensuring the strength and vitality of Canada's television industry.
