Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 10th Canadian New Media Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Dec. 1, 2010) - Our Government recognizes the importance of arts and culture to our communities, our identity, and our nation. A vibrant and innovative audio-visual industry not only builds our economy, it also builds our national pride. We are proud to recognize the contribution made to Canada's economic well-being by a dynamic broadcasting and interactive media sector. This industry's creativity and ground-breaking spirit are vital to securing Canada's role as a strong and prosperous country in the global digital economy.

The past decade has shown enormous growth in the interactive media sector, and, for the past 10 years, the Canadian New Media Awards have celebrated excellence and recognized the outstanding contributions to the industry by recipients in 19 diverse categories.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate all the winners and nominees of this year's Canadian New Media Awards. I would also like to commend nextMEDIA on its efforts to showcase the best of our nation's interactive media leaders.
