Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of Simon Brault Being Awarded the 2009 Keith Kelly Award for Cultural Leadership

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 12, 2009) - Our cultural landscape is shaped by men and women whose energy and passion are indispensable to the growth of the arts in this country, so that our society can reap the social and economic benefits.

Simon Brault is one of these men. The Director General of the National Theatre School, Vice-Chair of the Canada Council for the Arts, and Chair of Culture Montreal, he is without question one of Canada's greatest cultural builders. I have had the pleasure of meeting Mr. Brault on several occasions and was inspired by his personal commitment to the vitality of Canada's cultural scene and to the training of future generations of Canadian artists.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I wish to recognize Simon Brault, recipient of the 2009 Keith Kelly Award for Cultural Leadership. This award, bestowed by the Canadian Conference of the Arts, aptly attests to what this defender of the arts has done for the promotion of culture in all of its forms, both in his own community and well beyond it.

Congratulations Simon.
