Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Passing of Ann Southam

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Nov. 26, 2010) - It is with great sadness that I learned of the passing of Ann Southam, one of Canada's great electronic music composers.

A native of Winnipeg, Ms. Southam studied at the Royal Conservatory of Music in Toronto before she began teaching electronic music and composing works for various modern dance troops and choreographers.

Ms. Southam was appointed a Member of the Order of Canada in 2010 for her remarkable contribution to electronic, acoustic, and orchestral music, as well as her philanthropy and passion for volunteerism.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I want to offer my sincere condolences to Ms. Southam's family and friends.
