Statement by the Honourable James Moore, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Presentation of the 2009 Jutra Awards

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - March 29, 2009) -

For the past 11 years, the Jutra Awards have celebrated excellence in Quebec's film industry by honouring individuals and works of outstanding quality and depth. Our Government's record investments in arts and culture will help ensure that all Canadians continue to enjoy the quality of Quebec films.

In 2008, Quebec cinema put on a dazzling show with works that highlighted the talent, originality, and even the boldness that is characteristic of the province's films and filmmakers. The succession of comedies, dramas, thrillers, and fantasy films that graced our theatres and delighted movie fans, proved beyond a doubt that Quebec cinema truly has a place on our screens and in our lives.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I congratulate all of this year's nominees and award winners. I would also like to thank everyone who has helped to make this major celebration a success over the past 11 years. You are ensuring that our creators receive the recognition they so richly deserve.
