Statement by the Honourable Lynne Yelich, Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification Canada, on the Occasion of Small Business Week 2010

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA--(Marketwire - Oct. 19, 2010) - Small businesses and entrepreneurs are the economic drivers of the Western Canadian economy. As Minister of State for Western Economic Diversification I would like to commend the hard work of small businesses and entrepreneurs on the occasion of Small Business Week, October 17-23, 2010.

Small businesses continue to expand their vital economic role in Western Canada, demonstrating the strength and potential of entrepreneurship. Our Government recognizes the importance of collaborating with organizations and other levels of government to enhance business productivity and competitiveness and improve small businesses' access to information, business advisory services and capital.

To that end and to mark Small Business Week, I had the pleasure of launching the Small Business Profile 2010, a publication produced in partnership between Western Economic Diversification Canada and the Province of British Columbia. It examines key economic developments and highlights the importance of the small business sector to the economy of both British Columbia and the country as a whole.

Small businesses are vital to ensuring we continue to rise above the global economic slowdown, while building economic prosperity for the future. I invite you to participate in the various events happening across the west to celebrate small business week.

A stronger West. A stronger Canada
