Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 67th Cannes Film Festival

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - May 26, 2014) - On the day after the 67th Cannes Film Festival, I am thrilled that many Canadian filmmakers were honoured. In what has been a remarkable year for Canada, their accomplishments demonstrate that our country's reputation for excellence in film-both at home and around the world-has reached new heights.

On behalf of the Government of Canada, I would like to congratulate Xavier Dolan, whose film Mommy was awarded the Jury Prize on the Croisette this year.

I would also like to commend the exceptional filmmakers who represented Canada in several competitions:

David Cronenberg for Maps to the Stars, Official Selection

Atom Egoyan for Captives (The Captive), Official Selection

Stéphane Lafleur for Tu dors Nicole, Director's Fortnight

Marie-Josée St-Pierre for Jutra, Director's Fortnight

Rémi St-Michel for Petit frère, International Critic's Week

The success of our Canadian talent continues to make an outstanding contribution to the visibility of our culture, the strength of our economy, and Canada's reputation on the international stage.
