Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Start of Canada History Week

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - July 1, 2014) - July 1 is a special day for all of us. From coast to coast to coast, and even around the world, we take this day to celebrate our country and our achievements. This day also marks the beginning of Canada History Week, which runs from July 1 to 7.

The story of Canada is full of unique people, places, and events that have shaped our national identity. As we approach Canada's 150th birthday in 2017, Canada History Week is an opportunity to learn about and discover what made Canada the strong, proud, and free country it is today.

Over the next week, I encourage everyone to take advantage of the many great resources that are available in our communities. Wander through a museum, watch a movie or read a book about Canadian history, learn about a veteran's experiences, or visit one of our many national historic sites or national museums that have free admission today. Visit our website for suggestions of activities for each day of the week, as well as online resources.

Happy Canada History Week!
