Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 29th Annual Prix Gemeaux Gala

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 14, 2014) - Canadian actors, writers, directors and producers of French-language television and new-media productions play a vital role in telling our stories and shaping our collective identity.

The 29th annual Prix Gémeaux Gala is an opportunity to celebrate the immense talent of Canadian creators whose outstanding works contribute to our culture and stimulate our economy.

In 2012-13, film and television production in Canada generated $5.8 billion in economic activity and nearly 128,000 jobs. Every year, our Government invests more than $600 million in the audiovisual sector through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Media Fund and tax credits.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to acknowledge the Academy of Canadian Cinema and Television on its efforts to promote homegrown talent and celebrate significant achievements in television and digital media. Congratulations to all of this year's nominees and award winners.
