Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on a Movie Night Featuring the Film Elephant Song

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Sept. 29, 2014) - I am pleased to be hosting my fourth movie night as Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages. These events provide an opportunity to celebrate Canadian filmmaking and the ingenuity of our creators.

Directed by Charles Binamé, Elephant Song is adapted from a stage play by Nicolas Billon and stars a talented cast, including Xavier Dolan. After winning over audiences at the Toronto International Film Festival, this work was recently shown in Halifax at the Atlantic Film Festival.

Our Government knows that in addition to enhancing our cultural lives, the Canadian audiovisual industry is a major driver of our economy. This is why we invest more than $660 million in the audiovisual sector every year through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board, the Canada Media Fund and tax credit programs. We are proud to contribute to the vitality of this industry.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to thank everyone who made this Ottawa screening of Elephant Song possible, with special thanks to Telefilm Canada for organizing this wonderful event.
