Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the 36th Gala de l'ADISQ

MONTRÉAL, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Oct. 26, 2014) - I was very pleased to attend the Gala de l'ADISQ this evening. I am proud of the talent and accomplishments of the singers, songwriters, composers, entrepreneurs and artists of Quebec's music industry. I would like to thank the organizers for this memorable evening.

Our Government understands that the Canadian music industry is a major driver of our economy, in addition to enhancing our cultural lives. It generates close to $3 billion in economic activity every year through sound recording sales, shows, commercial radio and public performance rights. In Budget 2014, we renewed the funding dedicated to Canadian music through the Canada Music Fund on an ongoing basis. The Fund helps make a diverse selection of Canadian music available to Canadians and the rest of the world. Every year, on average, it supports the production of about 400 albums and around 1,000 projects associated with marketing, tours and music showcases.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I salute everyone who took part in the 36th Gala de l'ADISQ, as well as all the nominated artists and award winners.
