Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the 2014 Fall Report of the Auditor General

GATINEAU, QUÉBEC--(Marketwired - Nov. 25, 2014) - Today, the Auditor General tabled its 2014 Fall Report. Chapter 7 examined the federal government's documentary heritage through Library and Archives Canada (LAC), an organization within the Canadian Heritage Portfolio. Our Government thanks the Auditor General for his report.

As a departmental agency, LAC operates at arm's-length from the government under the leadership of the Librarian and Archivist of Canada and is responsible for their day-to-day operations.

I understand that LAC has accepted all four recommendations from the Auditor General and is already working on improvements.

The Government of Canada recognizes the importance of Library and Archives Canada and the role it plays in acquiring, preserving, and making Canada's documentary heritage accessible to Canadians.
