Statement by the Honourable Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages on the Occasion of a Movie Night Featuring the Film Corner Gas: The Movie

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Dec. 1, 2014) -

As Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, I am pleased to be able to once again host a Movie Night. I always look forward to these events, which provide opportunities to celebrate Canadian filmmaking and the work of our artists.

Tonight, moviegoers are celebrating with laughter as Telefilm Canada offers them a screening of Corner Gas: The Movie., The feature film, directed by David Storey, is adapted from the popular television series created by Brent Butt, who stars alongside a talented cast including Gabrielle Miller, Eric Peterson, Fred Ewanuick, Janet Wright, Lorne Cardinal, Tara Spencer-Nairn and Nancy Robertson.

Our Government knows that in addition to enhancing our cultural lives, the Canadian audiovisual industry is a major driver of our economy. This is why we invest more than $660 million in the audiovisual sector every year through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Media Fund and tax credit programs. We are proud to contribute to the vitality of this industry.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to thank everyone who made this screening of Corner Gas: The Movie possible. Special thanks to Telefilm Canada for organizing this wonderful event.
