OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Oct. 10, 2008) - The Honourable Peter Gordon MacKay, Minister of National Defence and Minister of the Atlantic Canada Opportunities Agency, issued the following statement today on the deaths of a member of the Snowbird Team and a Canadian Forces photographic technician:

"It was with great sadness that I learned of the plane crash that claimed the lives of Captain Bryan "Mav" Mitchell and Sergeant Charles "Chuck" Senecal. The two were killed during a mission to capture imagery of the outstanding work being done by the Canadian Air Force.

On behalf of the Department of National Defence and the Canadian Forces, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to their family, friends and colleagues. Our thoughts and prayers are with them during this difficult time.

Captain Mitchell was a skilled pilot and well respected officer who was extremely proud to be a member of the Snowbird Team and the Canadian Forces.

Sergeant Senecal had an outstanding career as a photographic technician in the Canadian Forces. He was a well respected photographer who captured countless images of the Canadian Forces.

Both worked hard to hone their skills and used their talent to bring a taste of what it is like to be in the Canadian Forces to Canadians. Their high standards and dedication to duty are a shining example for us all to follow, and the Canadian Forces will surely miss their contributions.

Captain Bryan Mitchell was a member of 431 Air Demonstration Squadron based out of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Sergeant Charles Senecal was a member of 15 Wing Air Reserve based out of Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.
