Statement on the Meningitis Outbreak From Minnesota Center for Diagnostic Imaging

MINNEAPOLIS, MN--(Marketwire - Oct 5, 2012) - We have received many inquiries related to national news regarding a meningitis outbreak linked to epidural steroid injections in multiple states across the U.S. We would like to provide information on the situation as, understandably, our patients and their physicians are concerned about the source and their risk.

Health officials continue to emphasize that the suspected source of the outbreak -- medical supplies/medications utilized in epidural steroid injections -- are from a particular supplier/pharmacy which formulates such materials.

None of our CDI centers utilize the supplier in question for any procedure.

The outbreak has raised concern related to the safety of epidural steroid injections in particular, which are utilized to treat neck and back pain.

It is important to note that millions of people a year receive these injections safely and with excellent results.

Our team of associates, clinicians and radiologists has always been and remains vigilant about patient care and safety. Our suppliers for all medical materials and medications in Minnesota are nationally known and FDA-approved.

For further information about the outbreak, please contact Buddy Ferguson at Minnesota Department of Health at 651-201-4997.
