Statement by the President of the Treasury Board to Mark Red Tape Awareness Week(TM) 2015

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Jan. 19, 2015) - Today, the President of the Treasury Board, Tony Clement, issued the following statement to mark Red Tape Awareness Week™ in Canada, held annually by the Canadian Federation of Independent Business.

"Red Tape Awareness Week™ is the perfect opportunity to highlight our Government's commitment to promoting job creation and fostering an environment in which businesses can grow and succeed in the global economy.

Since launching the Red Tape Reduction Action Plan in October 2012, we have been working hard to implement the various Action Plan reforms that help reduce red tape. These reforms are creating a more transparent and predictable environment for Canadian businesses so they can focus on creating jobs and fuelling economic growth. For instance, the One-for-One Rule is imposing a new level of discipline across the regulatory system by controlling how much administrative burden is imposed on businesses through regulations. In Parliament, we have introduced legislation to give this rule the force of law.

The Government of Canada is helping Canadian businesses succeed in the global economy. One way to do that is to control federal regulatory red tape on a permanent basis."
