Statement by Shelly Glover, Minister of Canadian Heritage and Official Languages, on the Occasion of the Movie Night in Winnipeg

OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - April 24, 2014) - I am thrilled to once again host an exciting Movie Night as we screen the very moving film Aloft. This will be the first time our successful Movie Night brings us to the city of Winnipeg, and I'm proud to host this film in my hometown.

Directed by Claudia Llosa and coproduced by Phyllis Laing from Buffalo Gal Pictures in Winnipeg, Aloft is a Canada-Spain treaty coproduction which premiered at the world-renowned Berlin International Film Festival.

I am very proud of Canada's film industry and pleased with the support that our Government provides to it. Every year, we invest more than $600 million in our audiovisual sector through Telefilm Canada, the National Film Board of Canada, the Canada Council for the Arts, the Canada Media Fund and tax credits.

On behalf of Prime Minister Stephen Harper and the Government of Canada, I would like to thank all of our partners involved in organizing this evening's event.
