Statement by U.S. Conference of Mayors President Oklahoma City Mayor Mick Cornett on the Murder of Two Police Officers in Des Moines Area

WASHINGTON, DC--(Marketwired - November 02, 2016) - U.S. Conference of Mayors President Oklahoma City (OK) Mayor Mick Cornett issued the following statement today following news of the murder of two police officers in the Des Moines (IA) area:

"The fatal ambush of two police officers early this morning in Des Moines and Urbandale tragically demonstrates the danger our police officers face every day. They are charged with keeping us safe, and in this case had to make the ultimate sacrifice to do that.

"Thanks to good police work the suspect in the shootings was identified and is in custody. The facts are still unfolding and little is known about his motivation.

The nation's mayors stand with Des Moines Mayor Frank Cownie and Urbandale Mayor Bob Andeweg as they work with their police departments to bring the killer to justice, keep their residents safe, and help their communities to heal. Our condolences go to the families of the two officers and to the greater Des Moines community."
