Statewide Conference Offering Tools for Creating Better Cities Coming to Central Florida April 28 & 29, 2016

CityWorks(X)po Florida Provides Venue for a Statewide Idea Exchange and City Planning Discussion

WINTER HAVEN, FL--(Marketwired - April 05, 2016) -  Several Central Florida groups have partnered to bring a national festival-style city planning conference to Winter Haven, Fla. on April 28-29, 2016. CityWorks(X)po Florida will provide a venue to bring together individuals with a shared interest of improving their local communities. Approximately 200 people from communities of all sizes across Florida are expected to attend.

"Great work is being done all around the state, and when we come together like this we can all learn from each other, form new relationships and serve as resources to one another," said Anita Strang, CityWorks(X)po Florida organizer and Executive Director with Main Street Winter Haven. "This event is for anyone and everyone, from community leaders to city planners, architects, nonprofits, and religious leaders, really anyone who wants to make their community a better place."

Founded in 2011, CityWorks(X)po was created to help professionals, elected officials and community leaders share ideas for building better cities. While the national (X)po is held in Roanoke, Virginia, this is the first time the event will have a secondary location that is focused on one state. Serving as Keynote Speaker will be CityWorks(X)po Founder Ed Walker, a social entrepreneur and lawyer whose mixed-use urban redevelopment projects have helped to strengthen at-risk city settings.

This gathering of people who are doing great work within their own communities has had a profound impact on those who have experienced it. Inspired by the speakers and conversations with fellow attendees the organizers of CityWorks Florida are confident that you will take a notebook of great ideas back to your own community. (X)po's speakers will address topics such as Capital & Social Entrepreneurship, Leadership & Good Government, Art & Design, Knowledge & New Media, Outdoors & Recreation, Food & Drink, Public Health & Social Justice.

CityWorks(X)po Florida is being organized by Main Street Winter Haven, Inc. in partnership with the Greater Winter Haven Chamber of Commerce, City of Winter Haven, Winter Haven Economic Development Council and Visit Central Florida.

By night, the conference continues with networking opportunities at high-energy events with live music, a water ski show and plenty of great food and drinks.

CityWorks(X)po Florida will be held at the impressive new 34,000 square foot state-of-the-art Heartland Church, located at 225 Avenue B N.W. in Winter Haven. The facility is a high-design, advanced multimedia center and is part of Inland Fiber & Data Park, which provides access to high bandwidth technology used to produce state-of-the-art audiovisual and music productions. "Our experience helping redevelop Downtown Winter Haven into a thriving live-work-play community demonstrates the potential Florida's cities have to reinvent themselves."
