Stay Safe This Long Weekend-Drive Sober: MADD Canada

Don't risk lives by getting behind the wheel impaired.

OAKVILLE, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Sept. 1, 2011) - MADD Canada and Allstate Insurance Company of Canada are encouraging Canadians to play it safe as they enjoy the last long weekend of summer: if you're going to be drinking, leave the driving to someone sober.

"We don't want anyone's summer to end on a tragic note," said Denise Dubyk, MADD Canada's National President. "However you celebrate this Labour Day weekend, please plan ahead for safe and sober transportation."

An average of 4 Canadians are killed and 190 are injured in impaired driving crashes every day. Summer and long weekends are peak times for alcohol-related crashes, deaths and injuries. Whether you're taking one last summer road trip, taking the boat out on the lake or trekking through trails on the ATV, MADD Canada and its partners encourage Canadians to always drive sober.

Allstate Canada has been a proud supporter of MADD Canada for almost 25 years, sponsoring a wide range of programs and services including MADD Canada's School Assembly Program, Campaign 911 and Project Red Ribbon.

"In our industry, we see the devastating consequences of impaired driving crashes far too often," said John O'Donnell, President and Chief Executive Officer of Allstate Insurance Company of Canada. "Our work with MADD Canada is an important way that Allstate can help prevent impaired driving and make our communities safer for everyone."

MADD Canada and its volunteers across the country work with community partners and generous corporate sponsors such as Allstate Canada to remind Canadians: don't drive impaired; don't ride with drivers who are impaired; and if you see a driver you suspect is impaired, call 911 and report it to police.
