Frank D'Angelo, President and CEO of Steelback Brewery and D'Angelo Brands, publicly announced today that he is putting together an offer to buy the Pittsburgh Penguins of the National Hockey League. He has asked friend and hockey advisor Phil Esposito to coordinate a meeting with Penguin's President Ken Sawyer so that they can start laying the groundwork for such an arrangement.

Frank D'Angelo said "Steelback is part of one steel town already with the Steelback name gracing the Sault St. Marie Greyhounds new rink. Now we would like to be a part of another steel town in Pittsburgh. Not to mention Pittsburgh could be the perfect springboard for Steelback beer in the American market."

When asked if he would move the team from Pittsburgh, D'Angelo emphatically replied "Absolutely not! Pittsburgh has a rich history of championship hockey with an established fan base in the world's premiere league. This team isn't going anywhere."

Steelback is one of the fastest growing new breweries in Canada and has built quite a following among hockey fans with their now famous television commercials featuring a variety of former hockey greats. "Bottom line: hockey and beer enjoy a symbiotic relationship and this will be another step forward for us as we continue to grow the Steelback brand on the international stage." stated D'Angelo.

This new development comes on the heels of D'Angelo recently being snubbed by the CFL, after the CFL abruptly stopped negotiating with D'Angelo for the Ottawa CFL franchise without any explanation. When asked if he's still interested in the CFL Ottawa franchise D'Angelo stated "We were the first ones to make a bid for Ottawa, we haven't gone away nor will we. We're committed to bringing football back to the capital, the question remains though: is the CFL?"
