NEW YORK, NY--(Marketwired - Jan 4, 2016) - Steven Eric Southerland, RN, BSN, AAS-EMTP, NREMTP, is a Clinical Resource Nurse in the Emergency Department at Holston Valley Medical Center, Wellmont Health System's Level I Trauma Center in Kingsport, Tennessee.

Eric Southerland graduated from Tennessee Technology University with his Paramedic Certification in 2000. Moving forward with his education, while setting a goal of earning an Associate's Degree, he continued advancing his paramedic skills, obtaining a Virginia Paramedic license and National Registry Certification. Soon afterward, he graduated from Northeast State Community College in Blountville, Tennessee earning an Associate's Degree in Allied Health with a Paramedic Concentration. In 2010, Mr. Southerland graduated with honors from King University and obtained his Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

Mr. Eric Southerland began his healthcare career in the pre-hospital setting in 2000. After becoming a Registered Nurse, he joined the team of healthcare professionals at Wellmont Health System at the Level 1 Trauma Center in the Emergency Department of Holston Valley Medical Center. Advancing quickly in his career, he became a Charge Nurse at the Medical Center as well as a resource to the department and other units throughout the hospital as the Clinical Resource Nurse. Working with EMS agencies and hospital staff, Eric Southerland continued to advance to his current position as Clinical Resource Nurse.

Eric Southerland is certified to teach Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support, Trauma Nurse Core Curriculum, Hospital Emergency Response Team, Emergency Nursing Pediatric Course, and is an EPIC Systems credentialed trainer. As a result of his extensive experience and knowledge, he also assists and coordinates with disaster management services, Informatics, and ED Administration developing and fine-tuning their protocols, departmental policies, and systems throughout the department.

Continuing his goal of advancing the nursing profession, Mr. Southerland has helped develop, review and implement policies beneficial to staff, patients and the medical center. In the same vein, he has become a driving force behind the integration of new electronic systems throughout his department, in coordination with the hospital-wide information systems. In addition to his supervisory and teaching positions at the Medical Center, Eric Southerland is depended upon to gather, analyze, compile reports, and data which is then submitted to the upper administration throughout the network in order to provide them with the necessary information needed to make decisions about the current and future operations of the department.

Mr. Southerland has been recognized as a Top Nurse by the International Nursing Association.

When not at work, Eric Southerland volunteers as a coordinator for the emergency response team at his local church, enjoys playing the drums, competitive shooting, photography and woodworking.
