Steven R. Silbiger Elected Council Commissioner of The Los Angeles Area Council, Boy Scouts of America

LOS ANGELES, CA--(Marketwire - May 22, 2012) - The Los Angeles Area Council, Boy Scouts of America is pleased to announce that Steven R. Silbiger has been elected as their new Council Commissioner. In this position, Silbiger will coach and consult with adult leaders of Cub Scout packs, Boy Scout troops, and Venturing crews. Commissioners help maintain the standards of the Boy Scouts of America. They also oversee the unit charter renewal plans so each unit reregisters on time with an optimum number of youth and adult members.

Silbiger is a dedicated volunteer for the Los Angeles Area Council. As a youth in Torrance, California, he earned the rank of Eagle Scout and served in several youth officer positions in the Order of the Arrow including Lodge Chief. He has served Scouting as an adult leader for over 25 years at the local, regional and national levels. "There are over 294 Councils in the United States and there are few people who bring such an extensive Scouting background to this position as Steve Silbiger," said Mike Bryant, Council Board Chairman.

In his position as Council Commissioner, Silbiger also serves on the Council's Executive Committee as Vice President of the Board. Silbiger has actively participated in a number of regional and national committees, and his advice and support is often sought after throughout the Scouting community. Silbiger was just recently presented the Silver Antelope Award, a regional-level distinguished service award of the Boy Scouts of America that recognizes outstanding service to young people.

Beyond Scouting, Steve has volunteered his time and talents with Phi Kappa Phi national honor society, the California State University Dominguez Hills Alumni Association, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation, Circle X Ranch Foundation, Sigma Pi Fraternity, the Ostrander Scholar Society and for ten years chaired the Double Vigil Golf Classic benefiting the Maury Clancy Indian Campership Fund, providing camperships for Native American youth to attend Boy Scout summer camp.

In his professional career, Steve is a Dispute Resolution Administrator with the Toyota Motors Sales USA, Inc. located in Torrance, California. In 2011, he was recognized as one of Toyota Motor Sales USA, Inc.'s Volunteer of the Year -- one of nine selected in the country. Silbiger is married to his wife of 10 years, Lynn Finateri Silbiger and resides in Mount Washington area of Los Angeles, California.
