STI Shares Entrepreneurial Journey From Selling Computers at Garage Sales to Generating More Than $20 Million in Annual Revenue

OVERLAND PARK, KS--(Marketwired - Mar 30, 2016) - STI, a local, flourishing technology company specializing in preowned and off-lease server, workstation and storage equipment, started out by selling IBM computers on the side of the road and at neighborhood garage sales. Today, STI generates approximately $20 million in annual revenue and has 37 employees who work in the two commercial office buildings purchased in 2008 and 2012 by STI. Both locations exceed more than 18,000 square feet.

According to Whitney Elliott, CEO and founder, "Before I knew it we were selling servers on eBay and becoming one of their top 10 B2B sellers, to launching our own in-house sales team of highly knowledgeable, Dell-certified account executives and offering custom configured technology solutions for our customers. Today, we take in primarily off-lease Dell equipment and tear it down to component level. This enables us to build the equipment back up to meet our customers' specific requirements. We find that our customers can get the custom upgrades they are looking for while saving 30 to even 50 percent by buying preowned IT hardware vs. buying new. It's still quality Dell hardware with a lot of life left. Think of buying clean, preowned hardware as acquiring an heirloom diamond bracelet. It's still platinum and diamonds!"

STI continues to fine tune its business success. The company is touting a new Asset Recovery Program, which takes a company's existing equipment, wipes all the data and either buys the equipment or recycles what cannot be used. This process also gives the customer the ability to upgrade their equipment, as well as keep their servers out of a landfill. STI has a zero-landfill policy to guarantee that all equipment will either be resold or recycled.

In order to launch an asset recovery program, STI added 14001 and 18001 to its 9001 ISO Certifications. Having these three levels of ISO Certifications ensures that the highest standards for health, safety and customer service are maintained through rigorous management systems. According to Elliott, "STI has worked hard from the ground up to attain the three levels of ISO certifications to be able to stand out amongst its competition. STI is committed to reaching the highest level of customer and vendor satisfaction and will continue to strive to be the best in its industry."

STI was built on a foundation of building long-term relationships with everyone it does business with, both its vendors and customers. According to Elliott, "We want our customers to benefit from working with a highly-technical and dedicated Dell-certified account executive to get to know them and help create custom solutions to maximize their IT budget, as well as have a team of solutions-focused Dell-certified technical support reps on hand to answer customer questions before, during and after the sale." STI continues to grow and expand their team under the executive leadership of Whitney and Simon Elliott.
