StillSecure Launches the Cobia Unified Network Platform

Open Software Appliance Makes the Convergence of Networking and Security a Reality

SUPERIOR, CO -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 2, 2007 -- StillSecure®, creator of secure network infrastructure software, today announced Cobia™. Cobia, a Unified Network Platform™, delivers critical network and security functions through a flexible software delivery platform. Network and security functions can easily be implemented with plug-n-play software modules in Cobia. Designed for use in SMB and enterprise remote offices, the Cobia platform runs on standard Intel or AMD compatible hardware which saves organizations significant costs in expensive, proprietary hardware purchases and upgrades.

"Cobia makes the security and network administrators' jobs easier by unifying networking, security, and other core infrastructure applications in a single software platform," said Michael Farnum, Security Engineer at a major US security consultant. "It's a great option for those who are short-staffed or under tight budget constraints, yet they have an immediate need for building a new network, extending an existing network, or upgrading their infrastructure."

StillSecure developed Cobia as a viable alternative to the traditional fixed-appliance approach for deploying network infrastructure and services -- an approach that is inefficient, expensive, and requires frequent replacement. Cobia's modular design and web-based management interface allows users to implement the complete network or a subset by tailoring the Cobia platform to the needs of each network.

Cobia offers a growing list of network and security modules including dynamic and static routing, firewall, and DHCP, with IPS, WiFi, VPN and many other services coming in the near future. The Cobia platform can be installed on off-the-shelf, x86 hardware or as a virtual appliance. This allows users to take advantage of the price, performance, and scalability of general computing hardware as well as advances in virtualization.

"The convergence of networking and security is increasingly requiring administrators to deploy solutions once and then redistribute them across the network as needs evolve," said Christian Koch, Network Engineer, Quality Technology Services. "Cobia is the first real option for those who understand the benefits of using an open, modular, software-based approach to networking and security, and how it enables users to take advantage of advances in general computing hardware to dramatically decrease cost of ownership."

Following the next-generation open-source business model, Cobia is offered free-of-charge under a dual-use community and commercial license. The Cobia community, currently over 1,000 users, is involved in online support, feedback and development of the Cobia platform and modules.

"Cobia presents a fresh and promising approach to delivering network services," said Tere Bracco, Senior Research Director, Current Analysis. "StillSecure has had success over the past year working with infrastructure providers to embed security into the network. Cobia is a natural next step forward for the company and a real alternative for those who want an open and flexible approach to networking."

"StillSecure is leading the trend in delivering sophisticated network and security solutions as software, with much greater flexibility, control and costs savings than traditional proprietary, fixed-appliances," said Mitchell Ashley, CTO and General Manager at StillSecure. "The response to Cobia to date has been tremendous, and we look forward to working with the community to deliver an innovative solution that makes it easier and more cost-effective for administrators to manage their network infrastructures."
