StillSecure Will Support Cisco's Application Extension Platform (AXP)

Cross-Platform Compatibility Between StillSecure's Cobia Platform and Cisco ISR Routers Helps Branch Offices Leverage Networking and Security Convergence

SUPERIOR, CO--(Marketwire - April 29, 2008) - StillSecure®, provider of secure network infrastructure software, today announced its intention to support Cisco's Application eXtension Platform (AXP), which enables developers, partners, and ISVs (independent software vendors) to build applications that can run on the Cisco Integrated Services Router (ISR). By porting Cobia™ networking and security applications to the Cisco ISR, StillSecure is helping branch offices take advantage of the flexibility, efficiency, and innovation inherent in converged networking and security applications.

Cisco describes AXP as follows: "The Cisco AXP consists of open, Linux-based Cisco ISR hardware modules for application development and hosting to support a tighter integration of the network and applications." For additional information, see http://newsroom.cisco.com/dlls/2008/prod_041008.html.

Through the AXP platform, Cisco has opened up its ISR by providing a software developer's kit (SDK) and application programming interface (API). This allows companies like StillSecure to take advantage of the Linux back-end to port applications to the IOS router software and/or application extension platform (AEP) blade. The combined solution is ideal for branch office environments that are faced with limited resources and rack space, as well as budget constraints.

The Cobia platform can be used as a standalone solution because it includes an on-board router as well as other networking and security services such as firewall, DHCP, and intrusion detection/prevention (IDS/IPS). Once the StillSecure/Cisco integration is complete, the current Cisco installed base will be able to take advantage of the additional networking, security, VoIP, and wireless solutions being developed in Cobia.

"The future has no room for standalone routers. We applaud Cisco for recognizing the changing market and providing companies like StillSecure with the opportunity to develop cross-platform compatibility that allows end users to take advantage of combined networking and security solutions," said Alan Shimel, Chief Strategy Officer at StillSecure. "StillSecure has always been a big proponent of open standards. Cisco's announcement validates our strategy with the Cobia platform, which addresses four main pillars -- the convergence of networking and security, virtualization, advances in general-purpose hardware, and the increasing adoption of open source in commercial and government environments."

About Cobia

Cobia is an open source platform that contains the routing, security, and core network systems needed to implement a network. Cobia's modular design and web-based management interface allow users to implement the complete network or a subset by tailoring the Cobia platform to the needs of each network. The Cobia platform is a community source application that is delivered as software and installed on commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) x86 hardware or as a virtual appliance. This allows users to take advantage of the price, performance, and scalability of general computing hardware as well as advances in virtualization. Cobia can be downloaded for free at http://cobia.stillsecure.com.
