Stillwater Names Ralph Green Vice President and Brent Wadman as Corporate Secretary

BILLINGS, MT--(Marketwire - December 17, 2010) - STILLWATER MINING COMPANY (NYSE: SWC) announced the election of Ralph Green as Vice President, Exploration of the Company and the appointment of Brent Wadman as Corporate Secretary.

Mr. Green (64) has served as Director of Exploration for Stillwater since 2004 and has over 40 years of diversified technical and executive experience in domestic and international mineral exploration, mineral lands management and development. His career includes a successful record of discovery and acquisition, evaluation, development and disposition of precious metal, industrial mineral and base metals deposits.

Prior to joining Stillwater Mr. Green had served as a Consultant to major mining companies and financial firms and held executive or exploration leadership roles in the exploration organizations of American Resource Corp, LAC Minerals, Coeur d'Alene Mines Corp., and Homestake Mining Company. Mr. Green received his formal education in geology, language and business management at Weber State College, Arizona State University, and Thunderbird Graduate School of Global Management.

Mr. Wadman (38) recently joined Stillwater as Deputy General Counsel and Corporate Secretary. Prior to joining Stillwater, Mr. Wadman served as Senior Counsel for Combat Support Associates in Kuwait managing a broad range of corporate legal issues. Additionally, Brent served several years as Assistant General Counsel for infoGroup, Inc. in Omaha, Nebraska where his responsibilities included corporate governance, litigation, commercial transactions and management of the legal department. Mr. Wadman received his law degree from the University of Tulsa.

Commenting on the appointments, Frank McAllister, Stillwater's Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, "With the market outlook for palladium being driven by good demand, constrained supply and a waning Russian palladium inventory, we stepped up our efforts to expand our palladium production potential. Internally this includes our expanded Recycling Business and announced projects at our Montana mining operations. Externally, under the leadership of Mr. Green, we have made the recent Canadian acquisitions of Marathon PGM Corp and Benton Resources Bermuda Property which expand the Company's PGM production potential and provide sought after product and geographical diversification. With his appointment as Vice President, Exploration Mr. Green will continue these efforts."

Mr. McAllister continued, "The addition of Mr. Wadman to our corporate staff and his appointment as Corporate Secretary, provides needed support as Stillwater takes on these new opportunities and challenges."
