After Friday's Bell Marked Commentary

On Friday, the markets closed lower on news from the Commerce Department of a sluggish economic growth as the GDP clocked in at just 1.6% in the third quarter. Consumer sentiment rose to 93.6 in the University of Michigan's final October reading, up from the 92.3 preliminary figure and 85.4 final September reading. U.S. light crude oil for December delivery jumped 39 cents to $60.75 a barrel. The Dow Jones industrial average dropped 73.40 points, or 0.60 percent, to end at 12,090.26, its worst one-day drop in a month. The Nasdaq Composite Index dropped 28.48 points, or 1.20 percent, to close at 2,350.62. The Standard & Poor's 500 Index fell 11.74 points, or 0.85 percent, to finish at 1,377.34. The Russell 2000 fell 10 points to close at 766.
