After Friday's Bell Market Commentary

On Friday, the markets closed lower despite announcements by major banks that home foreclosures will be halted. The University of Michigan reported that consumer sentiment dropped sharply in February. The House passed President Barack Obama's $787 billion plan to revive the economy. Gold prices inched lower. The yield on the benchmark 10-year Treasury note rose to 2.90 percent from 2.79 percent. The dollar fell against most other currencies. Oil prices rallied. Light, sweet crude for March delivery rose $3.53 to settle at $37.51 a barrel. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 82.35, or 1.04 percent, to 7,850.41. The Nasdaq composite index fell 7.35, or 0.48 percent, to 1,534.36. The Standard & Poor's 500 index fell 8.35, or 1.00 percent, to 826.84. The Russell 2000 slipped 2 points to 448.
