After Monday's Bell Market Commentary

On Monday, the markets closed higher. Investors are anticipating another interest rate cut. The Fed begins its two-day meeting Tuesday. Credit problems still linger and the housing slump is deepening. Crude oil prices soared to settle at a record $93.53 a barrel. The dollar was mixed against most major currencies. Gold prices rose to 27 year highs. Bond prices rose. The yield on the 10-year Treasury note slipped to 4.38 percent from 4.41 percent. The Dow Jones industrial average rose 63.56, or 0.46 percent, to close at 13,870.26. The Nasdaq composite index rose 13.25, or 0.47 percent, to close at 2,817.44. The Standard & Poor's 500 index rose 5.70, or 0.37 percent, to close at 1,540.98. The Russell 2000 index rose 0.33, or 0.04 percent, to close at 821.72.
