After Tuesday's Bell Market Commentary

On Tuesday, investors are still cautious in anticipation of the Federal Reserve's next rate-setting policy meeting on December 11. The market is also awaiting Friday's November employment report to see if the data would bolster the case for further rate cuts. Crude oil fell $1.10 to $88.21 per barrel. Bond prices fell. The dollar was mixed against other major currencies. Gold prices rose. Continued concerns that the housing downturn may lead to a recession sent the markets tumbling to a close for a second straight day. The Dow Jones industrial average fell 65.84, or 0.49 percent, to close at 13,248.73. The Nasdaq composite index fell 17.30, or 0.66 percent, to close at 2,619.83. The S&P 500 index fell 9.63, or 0.65 percent, to close at 1,462.79. The Russell 2000 index fell 7.91, or 1.04 percent, to close at 752.06.
