After Tuesday's Bell Market Commentary

On Tuesday, the markets advanced despite economic reports. The New York-based Conference Board's Consumer Confidence Index dropped to 87.3 in November, its lowest reading since October 2005. U.S. existing single-family home prices suffered the largest quarterly decline in the index's 21-year history. A rebound in the financial services sector lifted the markets to close higher. The Dow Jones industrials rose more than 200 points. Light, sweet crude for January delivery dropped $3.28 to settle at $94.42 a barrel. Bond prices fell. Gold prices fell. The dollar rebounded. The Dow rose 215.00, or 1.69 percent, to close at 12,958.44. The Nasdaq composite index was up 39.81, or 1.57 percent, to close at 2,580.80. The S&P 500 index ended up 21.01, or 1.49 percent, to close at 1,428.23. The Russell 2000 index rose 8.20, or 1.12 percent, to close at 743.27.
