Stone-Coated Steel Roofs Protect Homes From Burning

BREA, CA -- (MARKET WIRE) -- April 11, 2006 -- Residents of Westminster, Colorado, felt the early burn of fire season as a roaring blaze spread across nearly 1,600 acres causing over 130 homes to be evacuated the first week of April. This disaster took place just two months before the state's annual "Lightning & Fire Safety Week," set to begin June 18th. While many residents wait until the fire has ascended upon them to begin preparing for the worst, it is highly recommended that people move to more proactive measures.

Averaging around 2,500 wildfires each year, Colorado will be educating residents on securing their homes before fire season during "Lightning & Fire Safety Week." Events will take place in addition to Colorado's "Severe Weather Week" beginning April 16, which educates homeowners on overall weather safety and precautions. One major form of prevention: Choosing a fire resistant roof material such as stone-coated steel. This could make all the difference for a house and its ability to withstand the fire or burn to the ground taking everything inside with it.

Gerard Roofing Technologies, a manufacturer of stone-coated steel roofing systems, recognizes the importance of protecting loved ones and their valuable possessions by providing their home with the safety and security that it deserves. Several of Gerard's Colorado customers have chosen their stone-coated steel roofs for this very reason; the comfort that comes with knowing a fire resistant roof with a lifetime limited warranty is covering their home. Gerard roofs have also been tested and proven they can stand up against hurricanes, hailstorms, earthquakes and other severe weather.

Unlike most other roofing materials, Gerard's patented interlocking fastening system prevents blowing embers from igniting the roof deck. "Since it's made of steel, Gerard panels are incombustible and safe from exposure to airborne burning cinders, yet significantly lighter in weight than other types of roofs," said Ron Anderson, Director of Sales for Gerard Roofing Technologies.

Inevitably, fire season will approach and homes throughout the nation will be lost. Cutting back brush and limiting outdoor fires are helpful yet do not ensure that one's neighbors share this proactive attitude. Homeowners are advised to take preventive measures today so they can rest easy tomorrow.
