Stonesthrow Calls Out to UN Climate Conference

Rock Band Releases Striking Manifesto and Video

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Nov. 29, 2010) - Glasgow-based rock band Stonesthrow announced today the release of their first video Stand Taller and issued a groundbreaking manifesto outlining their views on the music industry's inactivity and the media's potential to influence climate change.

On the opening day of the UN Climate Conference in Cancun, Mexico, the band published a mission statement on their website.

"We want to make great music but never at the cost of ignoring what we stand for ", said Derek Murray, lead singer. "We strongly believe that through music both artists and fans can act as an incubator for change, a bridge crossing cultures and differences. That's exactly what 'Stand Taller' is about."

What do they have to say? Stonesthrow propose to offer their cds by print on demand and on sale through their website only, equally committing themselves to plant one tree per sold copy. Not a vague commitment it seems as their label Bloomingfeld already purchased tracts of land to plant trees.

Perhaps most striking is their commitment not to take part in events that promote diversity, fair trade, debt cancellation or sustainable growth unless these events would offer the audience the vital transparency and thorough follow-up that is often overlooked.

A key feature of Stonesthrow's approach is their strong focus on social commitment, sustainable development and environmental awareness, a key function they like to have included in each artist's job description from day one.

"The Stand Taller clip sends across a striking message. We'd like to encourage people in their personal quest to make a difference."
