Stoppage at Westland's Suspended

LONDON, UNITED KINGDOM--(Marketwire - Aug. 24, 2007) - The planned 24 hour stoppage on 29th August has been suspended at Westland Helicopters and Westland Transmissions Ltd to enable national level talks.

Unite the union is in dispute with Westland's over the company's plans to close the final salary scheme to new members and change the way pensionable pay is calculated.

The planned stoppage has been suspended to enable national level talks to take place on 29th August. In the event that the talks are unsuccessful an additional 24 hour stoppage will commence 6am on Monday 3rd September 2007. In addition the continuous overtime ban remains in place along with the planned stoppages on 11th and 27th September 2007.

Unite Regional Officer, Colin Rose, says,

"Any opportunity to return to the negotiating table to attempt to reach a deal is welcome. We very much hope that these talks will be productive. In the event that the talks are unsuccessful an additional 24 hour stoppage will commence 6am on Monday 3rd September 2007."
