Strait Gold Drilling Underway at Culebrilla Gold-Silver Project

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwire - Aug. 17, 2007) - Strait Gold Corporation (TSX VENTURE:SRD) is pleased to report that diamond drilling has commenced at its Culebrilla gold-silver project in Peru.

Hole CUL-07-01 is the first of 17 holes planned in this drill program, the first exploration drilling done on the 68-sq.-km property where the Company has previously reported widespread mineralization from surface sampling. The entire 2,000-metre drill program is expected to be completed over the next 8-10 weeks.

Hole CUL-07-01 was collared to test a vein exposed in artisanal tunneling in an area of the property referred to as Quebrada Ancush. Previous chip sampling over 1.1 metres across the vein returned values of 6.5 grams per tonne (g/t) gold and 150 g/t silver with anomalous base metal values.

The drill program will also test targets on the main Culebrilla trend, where surface grab samples returned values up to 10.0 g/t gold and 200 g/t silver, and the Alalaj trend where surface grab samples returned values up to 14.4 g/t gold and 1,220 g/t silver.

"Exploration activity is extremely high in Peru, so getting good drillers and equipment on site and getting this program started are important steps for the Company," said Strait Gold President Jim Borland. "With a drill rig now on our property, we intend to make maximum use of it before the rainy season begins this fall."

Ryan Weston, M.Sc., P.Geo., is the Qualified Person for the purpose of this news release and is responsible for the 2007 exploration program at Culebrilla. Strait Gold carries out a program of quality assurance/quality control (QA/QC) that includes insertion of blanks, standards and duplicates into the sample stream to verify results prior to dissemination. Sample preparation and analysis was carried out at ALS Chemex facilities in Lima, Peru, an ISO 9001:2000 registered laboratory. Samples were analyzed for gold by fire assay followed by atomic absorption spectroscopic (AAS) finish and by gravimetric finish for samples exceeding the upper limit of analysis (over limit). Copper and silver, together with 32 other elements, were assayed by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) following aqua regia dissolution.
